S.I. Ferry & South Street Seaport

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

We arrived in Newark late on Thursday. Hubby's step-brother and his fiance met us at the airport and were kind enough to give us a ride to our hotel on Staten Island. We visited for a little whiole with the family then headed to bed.

The following morning we took the Staten Island Ferry to Manhattan. It was COLD but so much fun. It went right by the Statue of Liberty and boasted some great views of the Manhattan skyline.

See that tall building on the left {the tallest one} with the black top / blue bottom? That is the Freedom Tower or 1 World Trade Center. It is still under contruction.  More on that later when I recap our visit to the 9/11 Memorial.

Here is a closer view of the tower.

After arriving on Manhattan we walked a few blocks before stumbling upon a really cool restaurant and bar, called Fraunces Tavern. Little did we know that the building had a lot of history. The location is where George Washington bid farewell to his troops after the Revolutionary War and is also the oldest non-religious building in New York.

The view from just outside the tavern. You can see the tavern sign on the left of the picture.

From there we "hailed a cab" and headed over to South Street Seaport.

The Seaport has a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn skyline and is full of lots of shopping and dinning.

We also managed to find the beach. Haha. It was just a little different than the beaches we are used to.

After walking around for a few minutes in The Seaport, we crossed the street to grab lunch at Heartland Brewery. They have many locations around Manhattan {this was The Seaport location}. They also had the best macaroni and cheese we've ever had.

After lunch we "hailed a cab" back to the ferry to head back to S.I. to get ready for the rehearsal dinner.

It was a fun and cold day!
